JVS senior services help older adults and the frail elderly age in place and remain connected to their community through volunteer opportunities, specialized programs and stimulating activities that help them remain active and engaged.


Active Seniors

Senior Service Corps

Volunteer opportunities through JVS’s community service program are offered to senior adults. Placements can be individual or in small or large groups based on personal preference and supports needed. Participants perform valuable community services while maintaining a sense of personal worth and usefulness. Advocacy, counseling transportation and other support services are also provided. Memory Club

This unique program provides memory-enhancing tips and techniques to help individuals who are just beginning to experience mild memory problems. In a group setting, participants engage in memory exercises, participate in field trips and learn what works best to boost their memory. Contact rberman@jvsdet.org or (248) 233-4247. More info »


Mind University


Just like you need to exercise regularly to keep your body in shape, your brain also requires a workout to reach its peak performance. Mind University is a joint initiative of JVS and Jewish Family Service that helps inividuals keep their brain healthy.  View brochure »  Classes and resources offered include:

     • Health and wellness workshops
     • Family consultations and support to address driver cessation,
       caregiver issues and other concerns

Seniors with Memory Disorders

Dorothy & Peter Brown Jewish Community Adult Day Program

This nonsectarian program serves senior adults with Alzheimer’s disease and related memory disorders as well as their family caregivers. Participants benefit from therapeutic activities, socialization and individualized care provided by compassionate, trained staff. Caregivers obtain a much-needed break from 24-hour care, tips to keep their loved ones at home for as long as possible and support from JVS staff and other caregivers.
