ANNOUNCEMENT OF STAFF OPENING FOR TRANSITION TECHNICIAN JVS announces a staff opening for a full-time (35 hours per week) Transition Technician in its Rehabilitation Services department located in Southfield. QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma or equivalency required, two years of college preferred. Work experience with individuals with disabilities, particularly students with special needs, preferred. ASL proficiency preferred. Interpersonal skills sufficient to interact professionally with participants, students, teachers, referral sources, and the public. Composition skills sufficient to prepare required documentation. Excellent organizational skills and proficiency in MS Word required. Driving record must meet safe driving standards established by Agency insurance carrier. Valid Michigan driver's license. ESSENTIAL DUTIES: 1. Prepare, review and/or complete documentation for students in Transition program, including but not limited to correcting papers and tests, tracking and filing permission slips, completing job shadowing reports, recording attendance, creating student certificates, and completing and updating status memos. 2. Create and maintain student files, including assisting with developing Transition Portfolio. Close files, as needed. 3. Assist with job placement activities, such as contacting employers, taking consumers to interviews, and assisting with completing job search paperwork. 4. Provide job retention services for selected students. 5. Develop sites for job shadowing and community-based assessments. 6. Schedule and accompany students/consumers on job shadowing trips. 7. Maintain Transition Activity manual. 8. Complete all required documentation including intake/orientation forms, intervention plans, individual plans of service, weekly data sheets, service notes, and other progress and data summaries. 9. Use established interview and related techniques to complete orientation and intake process for program participants. 10. Perform word processing and data entry tasks, as needed. 11. Perform copy work. 12. Serve on Agency committee(s) as appointed. 13. Provide job-coaching services to participants as needed. WORKING CONDITIONS: 1. Work involves the ability to work flexible hours in school, community and facility settings as well as traveling to local sites in Oakland and Macomb counties. 2. Work involves stooping, bending, working on uneven surfaces. Ability to transport items weighing up to 70 pounds from above shoulder to ground level. SALARY AND RELATED: Salary is based on experience. Benefits include a Blue Cross/Blue Shield PPO or HMO for individual coverage. Family coverage is available under a premium-sharing plan. Option is available to substitute $1,560 per year in lieu of health insurance. Other benefits include vacation, sick leave, life insurance, long-term disability, and retirement when eligibility requirements are met.
