ANNOUNCEMENT OF STAFF OPENING

FOR

SENIOR SERVICE CORP ASSISTANT

JVS announces a staff opening for an on-call Senior Service Corp Assistant in its Senior Adult Services department located at the Rose and Sidney Diem building in Southfield.

QUALIFICATIONS:

High school diploma. Associate's degree in social work, psychology, gerontology or related field preferred. Two to three years related experience working with senior population. Interpersonal skills sufficient to communicate with participants, staff and public. Composition skills sufficient to prepare required reports. Driving record must meet safe driving standards as established by Agency insurance carrier. Valid Michigan driver's license.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

1.

Assist the Coordinator in the distribution of work, instructing Corp members in the completion of work, perform quality inspections of work performed and interact with the non profit community providing the work as directed by the Coordinator.
 

2.

Under the direction of the Coordinator, make follow up calls to agencies in the general non-profit community to request work for Corps members.
 
3. Assist the Coordinator in recruiting, screening and orienting SSC volunteers.
 

4.

Aid the Coordinator in assessing the capabilities of SSC members to perform their volunteer work, and adapting the work and/or making referrals to other programs, as appropriate.
 

5.

Under the direction of the Coordinator, obtain information about community resources needed to promote the independence of Corp members. Link Corp members as instructed.
 

6.

Obtain and coordinate transportation of volunteers to the work site. Transport participants using agency van or own vehicle as needed.
 

7.

Complete documentation as required.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

1.

Work involves the ability to work flexible hours and travel to local community sites.
 
2. Work involves lifting boxes with weights of up to 25 pounds.

SALARY AND RELATED:

Salary is $9.21 per hour.
