ANNOUNCEMENT OF STAFF OPENING

Career Counselor

JVS announces a staff opening for a full time Career Counselor (40 hours per week) in its Career Development department located at the Rose and Sidney Diem building in Southfield.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Master's degree required in counseling or related fields such as psychology, social work, rehabilitation counseling, etc., which includes a counseling practicum or supervised field experience. Prefer individuals who are licensed by Michigan Board of Counseling or have a related equivalent or certification. Two to three years related experience working with a wide range of individuals preferred. Experience conducting vocational and personality testing, group counseling and job placement preferred. Interpersonal skills sufficient to communicate with clients, public and staff. Composition skills sufficient to prepare required reports.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

1.

Complete an initial intake assessment for each client assigned, and maintain ongoing assessment of needs.
 

2.

Establish and maintain a counseling relationship with the client and develop and implement a counseling plan.
 

3.

Achieve a Career Development Plan (CDP) rate that is consistent with current Agency goals.
 

4.

Conduct group counseling sessions, as assigned.
 

5.

Administer and interpret vocational test battery.
 

6. Assist clients to interpret and integrate vocational information to develop a vocational plan.
 
7. Obtain necessary services for clients by referring and coordinating with other disciplines within the agency or community.
 
8. Assist clients with job seeking skills, (i.e. resume preparation, interviewing skills etc.) and in conducting a job search. Provide job referral and placement services as needed.
 
9. Assist clients to effectively adjust to the work environment.
 
10. Maintain case records, correspondence, weekly statistics and agency reporting
requirements.

 
11. Participate in the peer review process as scheduled by the supervisor. Achieve a satisfactory peer review rating.
 
12. Serve on Agency committee(s) as appointed.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

1.

Work involves flexible schedule including evening hours.

SALARY AND RELATED:

Salary is based on experience. Benefits include a Blue Cross/Blue Shield PPO or HMO for individual coverage. Family coverage is available under a premium-sharing plan. Option is available to substitute $1,560 per year in lieu of health insurance. Other benefits include vacation, sick leave, life insurance, long-term disability, and retirement when eligibility requirements are met.
