ANNOUNCEMENT OF STAFF OPENING

FOR

PREVENTION COUNSELOR

HR Solutions Group, a subsidiary of JVS announces a staff opening for a part-time (20 hour per week) Prevention Counselor for Detroit Recovery Project located in Detroit.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor's degree in psychology, social work, special education or related field preferred. Two years related experience with ex-offenders and in-depth knowledge of community resources specifically related to ex-offenders required. Interpersonal skills sufficient to communicate with participants, public and staff. Composition skills sufficient to prepare required reports. Thorough familiarity of utilization of the Comprehensive Risk Counseling and Services model of prevention service. Knowledge of HIV/STD related risks and pertinent prevention strategies. Proficiency with Microsoft Office including Word and Excel. Type a minimum of 30 wpm. Driving record must meet safe driving standards as established by Agency insurance carrier. Valid Michigan driver's license.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

1.

Administer Comprehensive Risk Counseling and Services prescreening, screening and client assessment instruments to determine client eligibility and appropriateness for PACT services.
 

2.

Work with clients in development of Prevention Plan objectives. Modify plans as necessary. Assure that client objectives are specific, measurable, appropriate, realistic and time-limited.
 

3.

Organize, set up and secure client files for assigned PACT clients. File documents in case records as directed.
 

4.

Generate required documents to ensure that the case record is in accordance with all applicable regulations for governing accreditation and funding bodies.
 

5.

Assist clients develop risk reduction skills and strategies.
 

6. Maintain current knowledge of HIV/STD related risks and pertinent prevention strategies by attending trainings as appropriate.
 
7. Using a person-centered approach, provide case coordination, follow-along supports, linkages and advocacy services.
 
8. Document progress or lack thereof of clients on caseload with case notes.
 
9. In conjunction with Case Manager, link with community resources to provide client referrals for ancillary service and other needs.
 
10. Discharge clients consistent with established policy.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

1.

Work involves sitting for up to 80% of work time.
 
2. Ability to stoop and bend to file records.
 
3. Ability to transport files and other items with an average weight of 15 pounds.

Salary is based on experience and training.
