ANNOUNCEMENT OF STAFF OPENING

FOR

PEER SUPPORT SPECIALIST

HR Solutions Group, a subsidiary of JVS announces a staff opening for two full-time (40 hours per week) Peer Support Specialist for Detroit Recovery Project located in Detroit.

QUALIFICATIONS:

At least one year related experience working with individuals with a substance abuse and/or mental health disorder. Strong organizational skills. Knowledge of local resources such as housing, medical, and other needed support services. Computer proficiency with Microsoft Office and the ability to utilize Microsoft Access database and Microsoft Word preferred.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

1.

Help fellow peers cultivate their independence, self-confidence, and self esteem.
 

2.

Act as a mentor, companion, educator, advocate and friend to consumers.
 

3.

Assist and empower peer consumers by identifying a main concern, develop and carry out strength based independent living plans that include measurable goals and objectives.
 

4.

Inform consumers of available programs and services and assist in referrals to other agencies/community partners that will assist the consumer in meeting his/her goal of independent living.
 

5.

Meet with consumers in their own homes, at designated offices and by phone as needed to ensure continued consumer satisfaction and progress towards the independent living plan goal.
 

6. Link consumers to appropriate services and service providers to meet their specific needs; follow up with providers to ensure quality services are provided.
 
7. Maintain appropriate positive, professional interpersonal relationships with staff, peers, consumers, volunteers and other stakeholders.
 
8. Attend and participate in trainings as required.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

1.

Must have reliable transportation as work involves the ability to travel within Wayne and Oakland counties.
 
2. Position involves the ability to work flexible schedule including weekends, evenings and early morning.

SALARY AND RELATED:

Based on 40 hours per week, depending on experience and training, salary range is up to $28,000. Benefits package is available after 90 days of employment.
