JVS Offers Computer Course for Job Seekers

The David B. Hermelin ORT Resource Center, a division of JVS, offers “Better Job Opportunities” to help unemployed and under-employed workers build computer skills. The 12-week course is designed to help participants land a new job or or strengthen skills for a promotion. Scholarships are available for qualified students.

Registration starts now for the course, which begins January 12, 2015. Classes are presented in three-hour sessions twice weekly for 12 weeks with M-W and T-Th options available.

Students receive 72 hours of hands-on classroom training (two 3-hour sessions per week for 12 weeks) that covers Microsoft Office skills: Word, Excel®, PowerPoint®, Access®, Publisher and Outlook®. The program also includes job preparedness training and seminars. Upon successful completion of the course, students receive a certificate of proficiency.

The course fee is $720; however, students who are unemployed or underemployed may qualify for scholarships made available through funding from ORT Michigan and The Jewish Fund. Space is limited and an application is required for eligibility. The David B. Hermelin ORT Resource Center is located inside the Jewish Community Center at 6600 W. Maple Road, West Bloomfield.
